COUNTING MOONS

This 2021 non-personal interpretive exhibit was first implemented as a New Year’s Eve event at Fort Snelling State Park, and has now seen two years of installation. I was tasked with putting something together in lieu of our previous candlelight event, and conceptualized this project. Together with Betsy Nims, we researched, designed, and painted thirteen canvas panels to represent the thirteen moons of the Dakota calendar. These acrylic canvases were hung with willow branches from trees along the trail, illuminated by solar lights at dusk. Guests were encouraged to walk through each of the moons and reflect on a year passed and a year to come. Special language and content assistance was provided by Tašunka Opi with Hoċokata Ti.
